Once again, for three days – Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day – we’ll be inviting anyone spending Christmas alone to send us their best images for inclusion in the Solitary Christmas gallery. Rather than silly snaps, we’re asking people to spend some time taking, selecting and editing their photos. It is the act of creativity, not the end result, that helps and heals.
This project began in 2020 when we asked for photos depicting the natural world. Noticing and connecting with nature is a powerful way to feel grounded, and we’re still asking for nature photos this year – but we’re widening the project and accepting images taken indoors, too, showing what Christmas looks like to you in 2021. Together, the photos will form a picture of our shared world over the festive period, seen through the eyes of those of us who are by ourselves this holiday season – whether through choice, or by necessity.
The Solitary Christmas Nature Photo project was set up by Melissa Harrison and Nick at HandPressed. No reproduction without permission. Media requests can be addressed to Melissa via the contact page but please bear in mind that emails will only be checked once a day over Christmas.
